Base for tau rifle?
« on: March 03, 2010, 01:17:00 AM »
Well, once again I was bombin' around the net and saw the new super soakers, this one looks like a good base for a tau gun... for those of us who do not have a wood shop [img]http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' />

It might be a bit small, going to have to track one down and see how big they are

What do ya think?

Now that it's out I'd use the Nerf Longstrike CS-6.

While the new nerf guns are cool, I think they're overused. Even with a paintjob, when everyone's using them they still look like nerf guns:

While they can be modified sufficiently to not look like a nerf gun at that point you might as well build the gun from scratch. I'd do foamcore coated in styrene for a tau rifle.

The reason many people modify the nerf gun is because it can be used for larp.
If it's just for costuming you can make a more accurate weapon by building it from scrap, but I doubt many people are capable of building a realistic 40k gun from scraps and have it fire foam projectiles... well, maybe Finnlock could...  [img]http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' />

It's on the list. I have the base for a working foam dart Las-rifle and I need to finish that Nerf bolter,,,

I need to make a list of things I want/need to make and stick to it, lol [img]http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' />

apart form the fact the gun is of a sort of p90 style bullpup grip, i don't really see it as a great base for a tau weapon,
(digging the 40k larp shot however, man.. why cant people do that in the US?)

Um...huh?  The Longstrike and the Tau pulse rifle are both standard layout.  In fact I can't think of a single Nerf gun that's bullpup.

You'd need to cover up the Longstrike's "receiver", build the stock upwards until it's almost level with the top of the casing, replace the mag with a round power cell, and lengthen and bulk out the forward section, but I think it's a solid base.

They're a UK 40k LARP group called Death Unto Darkness.

I think they're based in Surrey

Nope, Longshot's not bullpup, the action is still in front of the trigger.  Firefly is arguable but could probably be classed as bullpup..

I was going more for design than actual functionality.

It has magazine storage in the stock, just like the DSR 50 and the SU-16 among others, but just like these weapons the action and the magazine it feeds from are still in front of the trigger, which makes it a conventional layout weapon.

i was unsure, hence why i said bullpup like (as the most obvious bullpup is the p90)
but i guess i was wrong, i'm talking about the grip.

what do you call one of those grips on the p90? or a good few of the nerf guns (including the new stampede)

Bullpup vs. conventional is all about the location of the action in relation to the trigger.  If the action is in front of the trigger, like a M16, AK-47, or nearly all handguns, it's conventional.  If the action is behind the trigger, like a FAMAS, Steyr AUG, FN F2000, or P90, it's bullpup.  The magazine is a good indicator of this, but not always reliable - for example, the P90's magazine extends from the action behind the trigger all the way to the front of the weapon.

Which grip are you referring to?
