Latin texts and quotes
« on: June 18, 2011, 06:38:00 PM »
I thought that we could gather our Latin texts here so we have a bigger selection to chose from. For use on purity seals, words, prayers, litanies and so forth that can be used by everyone.

I'll start by adding some litanies that I put together today, they are basicly a combination from several different litanies from the bible, but for the Emperor instead of God and some other modifications.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Imperator, ora pro nobis peccatoribus
Nunc et in hora mortis nostrea.
In hora mortis meae voca me.
Et iube me venire ad te,
Ut cum Sanctis tuis laudem te.
In saecula saeculorum.
Ave Imperator.

Translation:
(Emperor, pray for us sinners
now and in our final moment.
In my moment of death call unto me
And let me come home to you,
that I may praise you
with your saints for all eternity.
Hail Emperor.)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Imperator, sanctificetur nomen tuum,
Vitam praesta puram,
Iter Para tutum,
Ut videntes Imperator,
Semper collaetemur,
fiat voluntas Tua.
Ave Imperator

Translation:
(Emperor, hallowed be thy name,
teach our mind obedience,
humility and purity,
so that we together,
always rejoice in the Emperor,
your will be done.
Hail Emperor.)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
O bone Imperator, exaudi me.
Ab hoste maligno defende me,
Sub tuum praesidium
confugimus,
Nostras deprecationes ne despicias
in necessitatibus,
sed a periculis cunctis libera nos semper,
Virgo gloriosa et benedicta.
Ave Imperator.

Translation:
(O good Emperor, hear my prayers.
From the evil enemy protect me.
Under your mercy
we take our refuge.
Don't turn from our prayers
in our need
but save us from danger
thy only pure, thy only blessed.
Hail Emperor.)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gloria Imperator,
sicut erat in principio et nunc et semper
et in saecula saeculorum,
Ave Imperator.

Translation:
(Honoured Emperor
as it was in the beginning, now is and forever will be,
from eternity to eternity.
Thou your is the empire and the power and the glory, for eternity.
Hail Emperor.)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Imperator,
tua implorantem auxilia, tua petentem suffragia,
esse derelictum.
Ego tali animatus confidentia, ad te,
ad te venio, coram te gemens peccator assisto.
Ave Imperator.

Translation:
(Emperor,
None has ever heard, that anyone that take refuge in you
and called your prayer have ever been abbandoned.
Thereby I come full of confidence to you,
Don't abbandon me in my time of need, but hear me and help me.
Hail Emperor)

I believe the term you are looking for is Litanies.

Good work.

Grant, we beseech Thee, O Emperor, that in the hour of our death we may be refreshed by Thy holy Sacraments and delivered from all guilt, and so deserve to be received with joy into the arms of Thy mercy.
Go before us, O Emperor, we beseech Thee, in all our doings with Thy gracious inspiration, and further us with Thy continual help, that every prayer and work of ours may begin from Thee, and by Thee be duly ended.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
This one to Saint Drusus:

Sancte Drusus, defende nos in proelio;
contra nequitiam et insidias diaboli esto praesidium.

Saint Drusus, defend us in the battle, be our safeguard
and protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.

For Blood Angels (because I really have nothing better to do):

Sanguis Sanguinii, in agonia decurrens in terram,
Sanguis Sanguinii, in pugnae profluens,
Sanguis Sanguinii, pretium nostrae salutis,
Sanguis Sanguinii, sine quo non fit remissio,
Sanguis Sanguinii, potus et lavacrum animarum,
Sanguis Sanguinii, flumen misericordiae,
Sanguis Sanguinii, victor daemonum,
Sanguis Sanguinii, fortitudo martyrum,
Sanguis Sanguinii, virtus confessorum,
Sanguis Sanguinii, robur periclitantium,
Sanguis Sanguinii, levamen laborantium,
Sanguis Sanguinii, in fletu solatium,
Sanguis Sanguinii, spes paenitentium,
Sanguis Sanguinii, solamen morientium,
Sanguis Sanguinii, omni gloria et honore dignissimus.

Blood of Sanguinius, falling upon the earth in agony,
Blood of Sanguinius, shed profusely in battle,
Blood of Sanguinius, price of our salvation,
Blood of Sanguinius, without which there is no forgiveness,
Blood of Sanguinius, drink and refreshment of souls,
Blood of Sanguinius, stream of mercy,
Blood of Sanguinius, victor over demons,
Blood of Sanguinius, courage of martyrs,
Blood of Sanguinius, strength of confessors,
Blood of Sanguinius, help of those in peril,
Blood of Sanguinius, relief of the burdened,
Blood of Sanguinius, solace in sorrow,
Blood of Sanguinius, hope of the penitent,
Blood of Sanguinius, consolation of the dying,
Blood of Sanguinius, most worthy of all glory and honor.

Yes it is, although I couldn't find quite the right word for it at the moment of writing (I was to tired from the days work). But I changed it now.

Spent a short time after breakfast doing these translations. The english text was taken from the purity seal in the special edition rule book and then translated into Latin. Just because I don't want to use Lorem Ipsum any more [img]http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' />

Ego sum fulgure et tempestate,
Imperator noster libera nos.

Ex pestilentia morbo tentationem bellum
Imperator noster libera nos.

A flagello Krakense,
Imperator noster libera nos.

Ex blasphemiae perditorum
Imperator noster libera nos.

De generatio daemonum
Imperator noster libera nos.

Ex maledicto mutantum,
Imperator noster libera nos.

Quod vis praebe tantummodo mortem

Ut parc nec ullus

Quod non est venia,

Quaesumus corrumpere ea.

Tranlation:
(I am the lightning and the tempest,
Our Emporer, deliver us.

From plague, disease, temptation and war,
Our Emporer, deliver us.

From the scourge of the Kraken,
Our Emporer, deliver us.

From the blasphamy of the Fallen,
Our Emporer, deliver us.

From the begetting of Daemons,
Our Emporer, deliver us.

From the curse of the Mutant,
Our Emporer, deliver us.

That thou wouldst bringst them only death,

That thou shouldst spare none,

That thou shouldst parden none,

We beseech thee, destroy them.)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ubi dubium
Illuminabit te

Ubi dubium
Ut seres fidei

Ubi non est pudor
Expiationum erit punctum

Ubi est furor
Ostendam cursu

Anima mea in verbum eius
ut in agro bolter

translation:
(Where there is uncertainty
I shall bring light

Where there is doubt
I shall sow faith

Where there is shame
I shall point atonement

Where there is rage
I shall show its course

My word in the soul shall be
as my bolter in the field)

The Grammarnazi in me does not give rest.

Ego sum (for better rythm) fulgure et tempestate,
Imperator noster libera nos.
Ex pestilentia morbo tentationem bellum
Imperator noster libera nos.
A flagello Kraken(se? sis?),
Imperator noster libera nos.
Ex blasphemiae perditorum (morally fallen, Gen. Pl.)
Imperator noster libera nos.
De generatio daemonum (Gen. Pl.)
Imperator noster libera nos.
Ex maledicto mutantum, (Gen. Pl., though it's a stab in the dark as the word does not stand in my dictionary)
Imperator noster libera nos.

Quod vis praebe (give) tantummodo mortem
Ut parc(?) nec ullus
Quod non est(?) venia (forgiveness),
Quaesumus corrumpere ea.

Sorry for not shutting the hell up, despite my humble Latin.

I for one like the Grammarnazi [img]http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' />
And your Latin is way better than mine anyway.
I think it's more fun with correct text on purity seals instead of nonsense text just to fill them up, so keep the Grammarnazi comming.

I changed it according to your points, but could you please take a look at it again if I might have missed something.

I only had one semester in Latin, so it's not much, unfortunately. I work with dictionaries and grammarbooks, and the bit of talent for languages I have, so my Latin is far from perfect, but I try my best.

One minor point: Krakense/Krakensis is written in one. I'm not sure about the declination of the word in Latin, since it is a rather late addition, if I remember correctly, and I could not find many Latin texts that mention it.

Well, I only read spanish and russian in school (swedish and english as well, but those are mandatory) and that was more years ago than i care to admit and I just recently started to teach myself latin for the sole purpose to use for 40k [img]http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' />
And here are some more texts I put together. And may I ask the Grammarnazi to cast his watchful eyes over these as well?

Sine tenebris, lux abest
Lorem ipsum
Sine mentiri, non potest esse veritas
Lorem ipsum
Sine bello non potest esse victoria,
Lorem ipsum
Sine morte potest esse sacrificium,
Lorem ipsum
Sine spes nulla dolor,
Lorem ipsum
Sine fide nullus potest esse capitis
Lorem ipsum
Nihil sine Imperator ...
Et nos sumus sine propositum

Translation:
(Without the Dark, there can be no Light,
We have purpose
Without the Lie, there can be no Truth,
We have purpose
Without the War, there can be no Victory,
We have purpose
Without the Death, there can be no sacrifice,
We have purpose
Without the Hope there can be no Future,
We have purpose
Without the Loyalty there can be no one chapter,
We have purpose
Without the Emperor, there is nothing,...
And we would have no purpose )

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Considerate rapacem.

Translation:
(Consider the Predator. Let your soul be armoured with Faith, driven on the tracks of obedience which overcomes all obstacles, and armed with the three great guns of Zeal, Duty and Purity.)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Confid Imperatori in hora proelium.
Contere quorum spes, somnia
Et clamor eorum in faucibus luctus.

Translation:
(Trust in the Emperor at the hour of battle.
Trust to him to intercede, and protect his warriors true as they deal death on alien soil.
Turn their seas to red with the blood of their slain.
Crush their hopes, their dreams
And turn their songs into cries of lamentation.)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nunc in pretium iuvenibus percute!
Quaerimus, in spiritu furoris, Domine hominum!

Translation:
(Smite now the scions of the Witch!
Grant us the strength to pierce their unclean flesh!
To cover their fields with the pale form of the blasphemous dead!
To drown the thunder of guns with the shriek of their dying!
To lay waste to their citadels with hurricanes of fire!
To wring the hearts of their kin with unavailing grief!
To send them into the waste of their desolate land in rags and hunger, broken in spirit, worn with travail and begging for the refuge of the grave.
We ask it, in the spirit of wrath, O Master of Mankind!)

A bit of beauty correction here and there:

Sine tenebris, lux abest (without darkness light is absent)
Lorem ipsum
Sine mentiri, non potest esse veritas
Lorem ipsum
Sine bello non potest esse victoria,
Lorem ipsum
Sine morte potest esse sacrificium,
Lorem ipsum
Sine spes nulla dolor,
Lorem ipsum
Sine fide nullus potest esse capitis
Lorem ipsum
Nihil sine Imperator (no need for -e)...
Et nos sumus sine propositum (and we are without purpose)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Considerate rapacem (predator, Sing. Acc.).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Confid Imperatori in hora proelium.
Contere quorum spes, somnia

Quaerimus, in spiritu furoris, Domine hominum!
