Adeptus Mechanicus Skitarii

Last year, a month or so before gamesday 2010, I created my first warhammer 40k cosplay constructed from sheet steel. One month obviously wasn't enough and there were alot of things that were wrong with the sizing and general shape of the armour and it didn't turn out exactly how I wanted.

this was the result

So excuses aside, it was fun and I learnt something about the skill and effort that goes into cosplays.

So this year I've given myself months for this project and a budget of about

Now, I'm probably going to get laughed at, but those blankets with sleeves, are really simple to modify into robes, and can be done in a few hours.

I think that's what they're called. Of course, the material is very soft, so it may not be what you're looking for. I don't  think there are many shops that sell robes in England. You can always buy sheets of red fabric, though you'd need to know how to make the robes.

Are you sure that's a skitarii?  Looks more like a magos to me, possibly a secutor.

If you're dead set on red robes, look around for cassocks.  You'll have to add a hood but then a lot of the tech-priests look to me like they have separate hoods anyway.

Well, the descriptions of the Skitarii vary wildly depending on the author. Sandy Mitchell describes them as mostly human troopers with augments, while Dan Abnett describes them as nearly entirely mechanical, augmented with arm mounted lasguns, shotguns, bolters and in one case, an Automatic grenade launcher (which is really impressive! Most weigh like 30 KG!).

Of course, it could be a Secutor.
