While Kommissar is right about the revolver part,  the cylinder could be removed to form a flat-sided design.  I know it is possible after modding my Maverick.

power sword? very cool!
what are you planning on using for the sword?
the nerf long swords make pretty good ones, Finnlock used one for his costume.. or his lady.

Kommissar get out of my head.....lol that's exactly what I was planning on using. I'm gonna have to order it from the Nerf site since none of the stores around here carry them anymore.

Just thought I'd point out that the classic bolt pistol is just the most common pattern - there are lots of different looks.  The essential feature of a bolt pistol is that it's a pistol that fires bolts, not that it's magazine-fed.  I wouldn't say it's unlikely that there are bolt-revolvers out there.

For recognisability, I admit I'd still assocate the Maverick with stub pistols more than bolt pistols, but that's mainly because My Escher gangers had lots of stub pistols that looked like that.  I'd say the fact that you're dressing as a Commissar probably tips the scales a bit further towards bolt.

In the end though, unless you convert it people probably won't think either bolt pistol or stub pistol - they'll think Maverick  [img]http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' />

Glue the Recon barrel extension onto the Maverick and you've got a bigass stubgun.

@rodtheworm: Yeah I see where you are coming from. OK so since Kommissar gave me a bunch of brain babies last night here is what I am planning:
  * Bolt Pistol Mark ll;
1, I decided to use the Recon core cause Yes I know the boards don't hear this enough ( ok here we go) Kommissar you were right about appearance.

2, I am going to cut down the recon shoulder piece to fill out the back (see Pic everything X'd out is gone)

3< I am going to remove the black spring cylinder( again see Pic) The only thing is this will make the pistol non-shootable but oh well

Instead of cutting the black cylinder off and ruining the shooting function of the gun, I'd build a box shape around it. If you look at the minis with bolters and bolt pistols, the back part of the gun extends a bit beyond the grip.

This also means you can create that rather iconic back part of the gun, which in my oppinion is one of the things that make a weapon instantly identifiable as a bolt gun...

I agree with Captain Thomas about building a box around the cylinder instead of cutting it off. It will add some much needed bulk to the Recon.

Also look for some of those sickle magazines online for Nerf guns or Nerf copycats. With a sickle magazine, it looks more identifiable.

Geeze make me feel like a REAL imperial political officer why don't you?   [img]http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/unsure.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='unsure.gif' />

you "could" leave the bolt in the back to leave it capable of firing.. after all,... oh wait, sorry these are the NEW recon ones that have that black bit at the back to supress the power.. dammit.
the few i have were ones where the tube at the back was ONLY visible when you had the toy cocked..
i hate how someone obviously caused a legal issue with the company so they changd the design to make it safer..

perhaps there are some nerf mods out there to return it to it' former shape?
i'd look into it, theres alot of nerf mod sites, and most people are really helpful on the sites.
just make an account and ask around? (after searching for abit first)

if you can remove the black bit at the back without damaging the internals (just unscrew the black bit?) you may be able to keep it capable of firing.

They do look strangely familiar for some reason, but I can't quite place them  [img]http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' />
