Hello all,
I know I have been stalking the boards for a few months posting comments here and there but now since I have seen all the great work you guys have done and actually meeting a few of you at Dragon*con 2010 you guys have inspired me to try and make my First Warhammer 40K costume. I have gotten the first parts for my Commissar Costume I still need to get the officers cap and also do some work on the overcoat.

Good for you!

my first bit of advice for you would be to make sure you get a sanding block and grind off all the nerf logos.
i've seen too many steampunks leave them on, and it just looks baaad.

ohhhhh trust me they will be gone when I'm done.... I wont actually be getting started hard-core till next week.... the horrors of getting paid every 2 weeks. It amazes me how much some of these people wanna charge you to buy them already painted.

people wanna make money, gotta include the cost of the toy, the cost of the paints, and then make it worth their while to paint them and sell them for a profit.

I looked at one that was painted and fixed up ala steampunk at a recent convention (Dragon*con 2010) and they wanted over $100.00 for it. That was one of the main reasons I decided to try and do this myself. Wish me luck and I will be saying a few quiet prayers to the Omnissiah when I start to put them back together

It's not bad, but there's no way that's near a $100 dollars worth of craftsmanship, materials included.

Right now I am planning on using the maverick ( the revolver) as a bolt pistol. The rifle I really don't have an idea wha to do yet....... But the revolver just screamed bolt pistol to me.

I commend you on your choice, I think it's better as a bolt pistol than the pistol-part of the rifle.

Uhm.. johnny... how is a revolver ANYthing like a bolt pistol?

Revolver - 6 to 8 rounds, revolving chamber in the center which rotates when the trigger is pulled, has a hammer at the back.

Bolt pistol - fires self propelled grenade rounds, is magazine fed, and considerably
bigger.

the Nerf Recon 'core' makes a better bolt pistol than a Maverick, in terms of shape and function, (even though in my opinion it's still a little small for a bolt pistol)

the most that a nerf maverick could ever pass for in the 40k world is a small "Stub Revolver"

i see alot of difference between that guy
and this guy below, who has a bolt pistol.

I'm not saying don't do it, but from my perspective, a bolt pistol and a revolver are worlds apart just considering the shape of them.

(btw yeah, that steampunk mav is not worth 100, what a rip)

Thanks for the input everyone..... I know the Maverick doesn't look like the pics of a Bolt-pistol but to me I like it for the bolt pistol. I am starting out small with stuff I have to do little Modding work on till I'm ready to get complicated.......lol I like the recon "core" as a bolt pistol but i hate that part that stick out the back of it. but trust me I look forward to all imput and ideas that you guys are willing to give.

well painting up a maverick and calling it a bolt pistol is about as effective as me calling my chainsword a chain axe.. at the end of the day, it's still a chainsword, whatever i say.

but best of luck to you with the costume.

Thanks for the input Kommissar....... I may have to change things up a bit. Like I said before I'm here for the advice. Like I said startin out simple a pistol and a power sword, trying to get this ready before Dragon*con 2011. My next costume ideas are an inquisitor or a tech-priest.
