The small band of checkers is attributed to her professional clown name of "Little Checkers". She and my brother in-law did professional clowning and magic for birthdays, charities and such for many years. I felt I needed to dedicate some of my build to her. That's all for now, stay tuned...

Got a little progress to share. The boots are finished for the moment. I decided to take a break from building for a bit and do a little painting. I grabbed the shoulder pauldron shields that go next to the armpit and worked on those. Here they are

I think the dark blue is a pretty good match for the librarian armor in the game. It's got just a hint of purple in it and doesn't scream Ultra marines. The pauldrons will get trimmed out with the same blue plus metallics and golds. The other shield I painted is 1 of the relics that you find in the game

This thing was actually a lot of fun to make. The lion head was a 3d printed door knocker that I found on yeggi. The Fleur de LIS are 3d prints also. The rest is foam with Dremel and soldering iron effects . There's also like 5 different colors of gold paint plus the weathering. I finally had to tell myself to stop painting. But it's cathartic to set and let my hands just do something enjoyable. I also started painting 1 of the forearms. It's the really ornate green and gold version with all the decorations and filigree. No pics yet. Once I finish this I'll get back to detailing . The next parts are the shins. These should be lots of fun. I'll have to print a ton of button head screws and a few other goodies I'm sure. That's all for now, stay tuned...

The green background kinda turned out like marble but not quite. I don't know what I was shooting for, but I like the end result. I used like 5 or 6 different tints of gold paint plus all the grunge and weathering. Now standing back and looking at the gloves and the extra forearm I have for the left side, I'll paint them in the same fashion. The extra forearm is smoother without the ribbons so that I can grab the storm shield without wrecking anything. Stay tuned for more...

In the customize section of the game, this particular skin of armor has the green and gold running up to and including the elbow. The green paint looks to be weathered off really bad and you can see the metallic color or ceramite underneath. I thought about running the green marble look up farther onto the bicep armor. Like maybe in the lore this whole arm was saved from a librarian terminator that sacrificed himself to save his brothers and this arm was all that was recovered. Most likely I'll run with that excuse and carry the color scheme onto the hip armor also. That way it ties it together. If anybody has any questions or comments, post away. Shin progress pics to share. I set aside the alternate forearm for the moment and dove into the right side shin. This one is shaping up nicely. The game skin I picked has a hammered look to it and I wasn't sure if I could replicate it. Tests on some scrap foam turned out better than expected. Here's the progression

First step was to layout the size and shape of the book and lightning bolts so I knew how for to go with the hammered look. I didn't want to do it after or I'd get an outline around everything and it would look half assed. I used a ball shaped wood rasp that I smoothed out a little so it wouldn't tear the crap out of the foam.

I used the heat gun on it to seal some of the pores and it smoothed it out too much. I went back in and hit it again with the ball nose and left it alone after that. You can see some of the other details in those 2 pics. Here's the rest

The last 3 pics show some extra heavy clamps on the sides. This was actually on the chaplain's armor, but I thought they looked cool so I added them. A few things left to do for the outside of this shin are mostly 3d print stuff. Both sides of the knee get a big gear with a skull cover and a boat load of button head bolts to trim the edge banding. The inside portion at the knee needs to get trimmed out with some removable covers for access to the strapping. Once I figure out the inner trim pieces, I'll double it to make the other shin go quicker. That's all for now, stay tuned for more...

Quick progress report on the shins. I mocked the shin with the boot, getting ready to make the back of the knee details. I started thinking about how I strapped Luciens shins up and thought maybe there was another way to do it. I blocked up the shin so that the center of the knee pivot matched mine in height.(22" from the floor to the bottom of my foot in the skate boot). I thought maybe some type of block or hook from the shin to the boot would have some merit. It actually works quite well. The shin is pretty light weight, but the block still needs to take the wear and tear. Here's the progression

Quick explanation of what you're seeing. I used 1" thick foam cut into a curve shape with some 1/2" as the hook portion. It's glued in the shape of an "L" with the short leg pointing down. I thickened up the front portion of the boot and glued some "1x"1 foam as stops to keep it from sliding too far around. I gave the hook a little extra gap front to back and side to side. You can also see some angle blocks glued on the top of the curved piece for strength.

I checked a couple of times to make sure of the height and it seems to work. This will give me a little more freedom of movement and no pesky straps to mess with. I doubled the pieces for the other shin so it should go quicker. Stay tuned, lots more on the way...

Next is the left shin. It took me awhile to figure out what to put on the front for decoration. And the color choice. Then I figured to make it match the relic forearm and gauntlet. I used the scene from the side of the plasma cannon that I made with the Dark Angel slaying the demon. I had to 1st get the size laid out to fit on the shin and the position. I'll only have 1 shot at this once it's stuck down. Here's the progression

Something was still missing. It needed some kind of decoration on top of the cathedrals but I wanted something more than the gauntlet had. I found some kickass lion head buttons on Amazon that filled the bill

Now at this 2 minutes I'm calling the boot done. I may go back in with a little lighter blue to put some wear marks scratched into the paint like you would on mini's. I'll have to try it on some scrap foam, but the grunge doesn't read as well as I'd hoped. Next is the shin. The color blocking in part seemed to take fooorrrevvver. But once underway, I went right at it. The blue on the back part is blocked in but not finished. The front is what I was concentrating on.

My progress thus far is a bit more than these pics. I'm done with the Dark Angel and demon, and doing the marble effect on the green part. Once finished with that, the outer trim will go quick as well as the blue on the rear. Once I figure out if the light blue works, I'll touch up the boot and shin at the same time. The grunge around everything really ties all the gold work together. Actually it was kinda fun to scrub all that blackish/brown crud around everything. I used the same mix in all the creases on the rear also. That leg being finished, I started blocking in the large chunks on the right leg. No pics to speak of yet. Stay tuned...

The hammered steel look is really easy to do. I used a die grinder with a ball shaped wood rasp bit. It looks like a miniature mace ball . The points were a little too sharp so I ground them down some. I tried it out on some scrap foam and found it worked like I'd hoped. This was done to the whole surface before I glued on the book/sword and the lightning bolts. That way it didn't have the tell tale outline around all the parts. Right now I'm running dangerously low on this gold paint and they don't make it anymore. I hope I have enough to finish 😆 Stay tuned for more...

I had bought a couple different pieces of green leather awhile ago and decided on the darker of the 2. I had pre-planned on screwing this on the back side of the buckle and used some drywall screws to hold the belt clip on the back so I could access it later.

I added on some silver weathering to the dark blue all the way around after these couple pics. Next on the paint pallet is the rear and side armor plates that attach to the buckles. I had to get the off white to cover as best as I could and it took 2 or 3 coats. Next was the Emperor's armor pieces. I tried to go with an orange tint, not just gold. I used some contrast paints and some yellow as well. It still didn't hit the way I had hoped so I used some very bright gold that was translucent to give it that metallic twinge

I was hoping that the shields wouldn't cover up too much of the Dark Angel to the right. Thankfully they don't. Still have some more to finish, like the lettering on the main ribbon and the gold wire that holds on the Emperor's armor pieces.
