Left shin paint progress. Got the front pretty much done and the rope hanger sorted out.

I wound up making a double hook out of armature wire and wrapped the whole thing with cotton twine. Coated the entire thing with black and then picked out the strands in gold. The wire blends right in. Here's some more

Still have the rear of this to go yet. Stay tuned and stay safe...

Shins and thighs are done!
https://photos.app.goo.gl/HnfkDTLqGUzLC9JSA

https://photos.app.goo.gl/42oTjhMStWsB2Rbp9
At this 2 minutes I'm making a change to the strapping for the diaper. I'm going with suspenders. I should have done that right from the start. The belt is too fiddly to get into and connect all the buckles for the thighs and shins. I won't have to cut anything, just take out the belt and re adjust for length. They should be here Monday.
I also caught up the other boot and started blocking in color

https://photos.app.goo.gl/ctPmZFudvw27LGKr8

https://photos.app.goo.gl/YhPadDU31ZymZsny8
The big strap across the top of the arch and the heel vent will be metallic. The rest stays as is. Should look pretty good. These are the last pieces to this 1 1/2 year long journey!! I'm excited to finish him! Now if I ever get to show him, that's another story. Stay tuned and stay safe. Thanx for watching...

Boot progress for today
https://photos.app.goo.gl/4hxJNDRM6cmJaSUb6

https://photos.app.goo.gl/CTPocv2qzEomzzCc8

https://photos.app.goo.gl/m3SAFyBf3Z4amxfE9
I still have the bottom edge around the heel to weather yet, it'll have the same as the toe area.
Here's a couple with the shins
https://photos.app.goo.gl/k92k7pmRhyTtgdrL7

https://photos.app.goo.gl/sqHqfrALejUdTQkF6
After both boots are finished, I still have quite a few little things to do. I have the arm hoses to paint still. I also need to pick up some more plastic fittings for various parts of his armor to connect said hoses. Suspenders need to get put in and fix the mannequin that you saw a ways back. He's mounted through his calf to a plate and needs to be from his waist. That way I can raise him up and put all of his torso and leg armor on with no interference. This will help  1) to adjust all the straps and 2) have something to permanent display him on. Getting close, stay safe and keep watching...

These boots were made for stomping!

With the shins
https://photos.app.goo.gl/PAcsVm4t46E2E4Ew5
I also got the suspenders in and adjusted and everything hangs all better

https://photos.app.goo.gl/q9cqwJUvNhnfkWXX8
His side armor plates are almost vertical like they're supposed to be. The thigh gap is closer also which I'm happy with. The thighs aren't as tall as the art and minis look, but human legs are short. I now have to get the mannequin mount sorted out to get him all together. I figure in 3 or 4 days he should be complete! I still have an assortment of half completed weapons to finish too. Maybe they should be in their own thread? Any way, stay safe and keep watching...

Trial assembly run today. The mannequin stood on his own long enough to get the body and legs together and straps adjusted.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/xGsGt9RGDjkd6UVq8

https://photos.app.goo.gl/BCFjc4YGwquVRuMz6
He stands about 6'9" without his search light and servo head attachments. I couldn't fit them on, they hit the ceiling LOL. With those attached, he's well over 7'8". These next pics are just belt buckle shots. The cross shaped 1 I'm not sure if I posted before
https://photos.app.goo.gl/jTDY3n1g86DKhzwe9

https://photos.app.goo.gl/kUVBiYMutGAAr9zH8
This 1 will have to get grunged up, too new looking. All the strapping adjustments came out better than I had anticipated. The gaps are about right. I couldn't get his foam arms and elbows on,the mannequin is a little narrower in the shoulders than I am. I need to extend the stub in his shoulder to stick out more so he doesn't look like muscle bound.
I've got the kickstand support made and paint is drying ATM. Still a slew of small items to contend with. Soft joint material for elbows, waist, thighs and knees. His hands are kinda open but not quite. I don't think it will hold his hellfire bolter . I'll probably have to fudge something for display. Thanks for watching and stay safe...

Today I was able to get his arms sorted out and test fit his elbows and gloves. His hands wouldnt fit inside the gloves, so I left them off. I ended up shoving some green upholstery foam here and there to tighten stuff up.

Here's 1 in the semi dark, his screens and augmetic eye show up pretty good
https://photos.app.goo.gl/vNpED27fHBimAhZb9
Now I can bring him in the house and stand him on sentry duty. I had to get rid of a couch to fit him in LOL

Security is set. None shall pass! Got him assembled and in position today. What a beast!

I added 1 purity seal just because.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/md6ac7kZc3pRTXWa9

https://photos.app.goo.gl/wntjkG4tPGZaiheL9
These were taken this afternoon so there was pretty good sun coming through the window. It messed with his search light and servo skull. Tonight I finished his bolter stand
https://photos.app.goo.gl/mNiTdeZyHUagMFe2A
I used scrap plate steel and some alum rod to make the upright part and the mount bracket that was for the mannequin leg. Something to take note of. When you build something like him or even a regular space marine, you need to take into account if you want to display your armor or not. You have to have the space to dedicate to it. He takes up the corner of my finished porch, but he's worth it. Anyway, something to ponder. Stay safe and stay tuned, weapons are on the way

Good weapons progress for today. I finished 2 that are ready for paint. The 1st is a force axe that I started from scratch on Sunday

All the 3d printed pieces are almost the exact same on all the weapons in the game, just different configuration. So about a year ago I printed off a boatload of all the components. That makes the fabrication go alot quicker. The next weapon is a mace of absolution. I had made most of this early in the build but didn't finish it. I only had a few foam pieces to make and cut the handle to length.

I tried to get some good pics of the ball but the light was screwing with it. It's a styrofoam ball about 10" in diameter. I burned all the grooves in with a soldering iron to give it an organic look. I was hoping to light this thing somehow, but the EL wire I've got isn't even close enough to being bright. I'll have to give it a convincing paint job. I've still got the powered katana from way back that needs paint. I'll have my work cut out for me for the next week or so. Stay safe and keep watching...

Speaking of more work... I found some 1" foam stashed away for another project that turned into this
https://photos.app.goo.gl/3EnG277vZpARBWKt5
27" wide x 48" tall
https://photos.app.goo.gl/iitkQCZTeE5N5kSU6
Now, the thing about this foam, if you've worked with it, it doesn't like to bend. Not even a little. I tried to heat it a little and score it . No dice, it just snaps. So the lines you see in the pics are bevel cuts and glued. The end result is a slight curve.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/vpeW3yB6AS33jkt96
This also poses a strength issue. The spray adhesive I used is pretty good but has its limits. I wound up putting splints across the bevels with some hot glue and bamboo skewers. I Dremeled a slot in the foam and glued them home
 https://photos.app.goo.gl/FvkMZKGaxnmKxur46
This is actually pretty strong, I tried it on scrap and am satisfied with it. Both front and back will get this done
https://photos.app.goo.gl/DptYCDPTUx4Yxkdj6
I'll try and alternate the spacing on the front as best I can. This will get covered with goodies on the front and a big handle on the back so you won't see the Carnage. Stay safe and keep watching...

Got some shield progress done today. I was thinking about the handle on this thing and came to the conclusion that it needs to be strong and supported. I used some PVC foam board to sandwich front and back to mount through with the handle brackets.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/chBjG7nktz9bMFVC8

https://photos.app.goo.gl/NJixnmeBwX91wGmy6

https://photos.app.goo.gl/fBXWTtaBdxWkh9DP6
I hot glued the plates on both sides and used thick super glue for the wood dowels. After they were set I trimmed them off and ground flush. I plan on doing the same with the handle. That way all the stress is on the sandwich bracket and not the foam shield. I figured out and made the brackets to cut the slots in before I skinned it with 1/16 foam
https://photos.app.goo.gl/6MPh8rNj49JtdRV36
Using this spray adhesive I skinned the back and cut the foam out of the slots
https://photos.app.goo.gl/sDphAVeZn5VhX6XCA

https://photos.app.goo.gl/wy7NZsMo6eLkUWfg6
Now I could  test fit the brackets and handle and make sure of my stack up for foam details. The slots go all the way through to the other side.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/ky7px9Zv9r4zLbPu9

https://photos.app.goo.gl/BbW572iD4EotXW698
Once I get the foam details laid in on this side the brackets will get glued home. The wood needs to go through all of it.
Another thing I did was make some corner protection for the point and the top corners. It's already getting beat up just working on it
https://photos.app.goo.gl/69b1mFgrAnbCASgp7

https://photos.app.goo.gl/DyUVsDfpXzqU7fFM6

https://photos.app.goo.gl/D6enezjSdSdDiyfU8

https://photos.app.goo.gl/oZcvR5XSuCXfv2Tu6
I made these out of thin aluminum that you use for doing the trim on your house. I hot glued these on and it already makes a difference. The shield edge will get thick mat board all the way around and get the seams caulked like on the hellfire bolter awhile back. So far this weighs about 1 1/2lbs. I hope it stays light. Stay tuned and stay safe. Thanx for watching...

Moar storm shield progress. Today I got the handle, brackets and a whole bunch of details on.

https://photos.app.goo.gl/TQSVVQorugmw7nkd7

https://photos.app.goo.gl/qjhKRzgrX6hFqDkdA
The end result should look something like this
https://photos.app.goo.gl/XH6F8hCroUoqWndj9
I ran out of spray adhesive for the moment so I can't skin the front. Figure I'll get the back close to done 1st. This thing is still pretty light 2-2 1/2 lbs. maybe. The handle is strong too, I don't think I'll have to worry much. Take care and stay tuned 😊...

Small progress report for today. Got the front of the shield skinned with the nice weather we're having(not worth a pic). Also got the rear of the shield complete, save for a few skulls or aquilla's.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/nJTUeLWF8NKetbdZ9
I managed to cover the big, ugly seam running across the middle with some trim and bolt heads. Looks like it's supposed to be there. I'm still thinking about how to carve the decorations for the front. It'd be bad ass to be able to make it 3d like the pic
https://photos.app.goo.gl/yufrxPiW2AjkbWEP6
Trouble is, if I make it out of EVA (the angel) I'll have to stack foam to get the thickness. If I make it out of exp foam (rigid 2" foam) I'll have to cut it into strips because it doesn't bend. The rest of the trim and wings can be Eva foam so that's not an issue. I'll have to do some experimenting with the materials I have on hand. Also did some painting on the axe but no pics yet. Stay tuned and stay safe...

Did some experimenting with some scrap foam of all kinds that I had laying about. The front details are gonna be 1/2 and1/2 mix of foam. The flat stuff is EVA and the angel is urethane. I stacked ure. foam for the angel and made a pattern to trace on.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/kkcU7eotLsyQKSoM7

https://photos.app.goo.gl/2bbndG1uf542by2U9

https://photos.app.goo.gl/ATk9eaRmQDLU8D2G6
This is gonna get carved with a Dremel and whatever else I can find. I've never carved anything this big in 3d before so it might have fail written all over it. We'll see what happens. If it works out, I can try and seal the ure. foam with some PVA glue or Quickseal so it'll take paint easier. It should, the lightning claw fingers turned out fine. Stay tuned and stay safe...

Did a little carving  tonight. Here's the result
https://photos.app.goo.gl/83r1aBqhdR9aZPAg7

https://photos.app.goo.gl/X99SDapWyW8Us7Db6
I started with the robes as I thought it would give me a better chance to fix any screw ups. Once I laid in the hills and valleys with a marker, I had at it. I used a Dremel and a wood rasp bit for my air sander. Note to self, the air sander will chew it up reeaalllyyy quick so be careful. The last pic shows where it'll get carved inward to show the thickness of his robes. I'm gonna wait near the end of the carving for this part. I don't wanna break anything off. I'll probably cut along the marker line with an Exacto knife so it gives me a cleaner edge and then peel the middle out with the Dremel. This foam sands easily but you have to be mindful of what you're doing. It doesn't take much to gouge it and tear little chunks out. That's all for now. Stay safe and stay tuned for more...

Carving progress atm
https://photos.app.goo.gl/KoTPzdYP5xLD3RaCA

https://photos.app.goo.gl/LeAgSvyk8oC2w6nu9
This is coming along nicely. I'm getting the technique down for working with this foam. It peels, sands and gouges like balsa wood. It's real finicky the way an Exacto cuts it or sandpaper bites into it. But that's the fun in learning. Once I get him all carved out, I'll make the swords out of PVC foam board and maybe cover them with Eva to thicken them up. They have to get sunk into his robe as his hands are level with it. Still a long way to go yet. Stay safe and stay tuned 😊...
