I use the portable cell phone batteries for my build. My plasma pistol with LED's for the "plasma" and for when I fire runs off one of them. I have an Arduino in it to run the 8x8 NeoPixels and because I want to add sound effects to it in the future. The 3000mAh battery for that will run the plasma pistol for about 2 hours or so, likely a bit less if I "fire" it a bunch. I made it easy to switch the battery out because of this.
For the other parts of my build I made use of 12V lith-ion battery packs (

I have a 3000mAh battery to run a computer fan with red LED's in my backpack, that thing just runs forever, I left it overnight for 9+ hours once and it had run down in the morning but I've run it for over 5 hours before so, somewhere between 5 and 9 hours there.
I used another 3000mAh battery for my sword that has a string of the 5050 blue LED's in it, I think about 8 feet worth. That will run for about 2 hours or so.
Hopefully this will give some people for references, just keep an eye on the voltages to make sure that things will work together properly. The Arduino will run off the 5V that a USB battery while the LED strips require 12V to light up properly.
