Storm Shield build
« on: February 04, 2017, 10:47:26 AM »
I've decided to remove the chainsword from my arm and trade it for a storm shield.  The weight wasn't an issue but it would throw off the balance of the arm.

Since I haven't found many build threads on a storm shield, I figured I'd start one.  Just building this by eye and Google photos.  Step one was to glue the 4 foam sheets together but it didn't feel stiff enough so I'm adding a thin layer of MDF between them.  It'll also give me something solid to bolt the handles to.

Alrighty!  Today was a busy day, but I have a ways to go.  I am lucky enough to have a scroll saw so that helped a huge amount when cutting out the notches.  I beveled the blue cross but will take the Dremel to it and smooth out the edges.  The Laurel leaves need details pressed onto the facing and be glued, and the skull needs to be mounted.

I'll keep posting as I progress through the other steps.

Good start! What are the dimensions (how big?). Also, you used 4 mats, I hope it won't be too heavy to lug around?
Facts are chains that bind perception and fetter truth. For a man can remake the world if he has a dream and no facts to cloud his mind.

She's 22.5 inches across, using 4 mats and an MDF square in the centre.  Weighs in at 2.4kg.
Hindsight says don't use the MDF, but I'll have a better DIY when she's done.

Yep, shouldn't have used the MDF.    :'(
It's not super heavy but it'll be a bugger to carry around all day.  I'll mount this one on the wall and make a lighter version.

After much input and help from OC members, I have finished and present Nidon's Guard.
