Plasti Dip Metalizers and Pearlizers
« on: January 01, 2016, 11:56:55 PM »
Anybody ever try the Plasti Dip Metalizer or Pearlizer products on their builds?   A buddy just painted his car rims with them and got some pretty cool looking results that I immediately want to try to get on on my current build.  Anybody have any tips or warnings?

I have not used it, but there seems to be quite the fervor on the internet about these products now that I am aware of them. The pearlizer is interesting. The claim is that it will add a pearl finish to any Plasti Dip colour. I think some experimentation is in order. Have you tried it yet?

I'm waiting for my friend to "loan me" his remaining stock when he is done using it on his car, then I will experiment and post results.   I'm just too cheap to go and spend that kind of money for 'experimentation' if I don't know for sure it will work.  I can tell you the results on his car have been pretty cool.

Test Time.  Pretty happy with the results, very similar to the 'Hammered'  Burnt Bronze spray paint from Rust-Oleum, only a lot darker and with a metal-flake finish.  Unfortunately the metal flake doesn't really come through in these pics but trust me it's there.

Using PlastiDip Metalizing Graphite Pearlizer.  Test foam: 5X5 square and a textured half pipe strap

Just PlastiDip Black, 3 coats

1 Coat Graphite Metalizer

3 Coats (removed tape for comparison)

3 coats paint cap match

Close up Foam Strap 3 coats

Yes, that's pretty sweet. Do the photos represent a realistic depiction beyond the flake? I was thinking i can see the flake somewhat. It looks like the investment would be worth it for a high end finish. Pricy, but do you get what you pay for?

I hadn't heard about this before.  Thanks for sharing your tests.  I might have to do some more research...

Yup , I plan on doing my whole chaplain suit with it, so far so good.  Doesn't crack at all, even under severe bending, very nice results so far.   It's more a graphite type finish, not just metal flaked black.  I got six cans of the pearlizer for 30 bucks off amazon and I buy the plain black Plasdip at Home Depot for like 4 bucks a can, so not too expensive.  More Pix eventually.

Okay, more testing, here's a side by side.  On the left is my Chaplain glove with 3 coats of regular black Plasdip.  On the right is after 2 coats of the Metalizer for black Plasdip.
