Awesome Fantasy Films
« on: September 08, 2010, 02:34:00 AM »
Title says it all. We have all seen the obvious ones, but there are a ton of films out there that are just glorious and don't get a lot of press.
Like this one for example.
Solomon Kane
HQ Trailer
"Solomon Kane is a fictional character created by the pulp-era writer Robert E. Howard. A late 16th / early 17th century Puritan, Solomon Kane is a sombre-looking man who wanders the world with no apparent goal other than to vanquish evil in all its forms."
Solomon Kane is the character that the fantasy class "Witch Hunter" was ceated from. he is THE witch hunter. This movie was only released in Europe as far as I can tell (so I didn't see it till recently, because I'm a silly american) but its become one of my favorite gritty dark films. I do ever so enjoy it. You should check it out if you haven't watched it all ready.

Brotherhood of the Wolf
"In 18th century France, the Chevalier de Fronsac and his native American friend Mani are sent by the King to the Gevaudan province to investigate the killings of hundreds by a mysterious beast."
HQ Trailer
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND WATCH THIS IN FRENCH
.. This is just a omgthisisawesomehellyes french movie. It watches like a thriller mystery movie and has some great effects for its time (2001) that really add to the dark and frankly terrifying feel of the movie.

Thats just two sort of obscure (atleast on my side of the world) fantasy movies I love, you guys have any?

We own both of those movies, Soloman Kane was a bitch to track down, but SOOOO worth it! No US company has picked up the rights to it yet and it's already out on DVD in Europe...

I saw BHotW in the thearters and man it was awesome, love the fight seen in the rain at the start! It is one of the most visually stunning movies out there.

Okay, I took a quick look through the DVD's. Here is a rundown of cool movies, some better then others, some more obscure then others...

Bubba ho-tep
The Returner
The Order
Avalon
Renaissance Paris 2054
Immortal
Perfect Creature
Ginger Snaps
Ginger Snaps back
Undead
Dog Soldiers
Meet the Feebles
Casshern
Night Watch
Day Watch
Fido
Equilibrium
Black Sheep ( not the USA one)

Starship troopers is so bad its good. I have fond memories of the movie because it was the first film I ever saw that had full frontal nudity in it (Ahhh my 10 year old mind was so happy).

... fond memories...

I swear that movie felt like a IG movie that GW was all "...no.. this is a bad movie.. you can't use our IP" when they had all ready finished most of it.

starship troopers? i thought this was fantasy films, not scifi..

anyway, yes the first starship troopers was pretty good so long as you watch it as more of an imperial guard movie and less of the actual book which the movie is NOTHING like.

the second and third movies are garbage, second was trying to be creepy and serious with bad props,
and the third was campy and had a musical number in it.

Wait...we are adding movies that had a mass release? Well in that case I could go on for a while. I'll make a second list when I get home.

I've watched that movie....I kinda hated it because it seemed to be little more than a high school bitch-off.  [img]http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/dry.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='dry.gif' />

It's not the best movie out there for sure, but I dig the occult, demons ,possessed type movie.

Plus, it has Ron Pearlman and Tricky Woo is on the sound track [img]http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/tongue.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tongue.gif' />

Edit: Whoa, I can't believe I forgot The Mutant Chronicles!!!!
