Black Templar's helmet completed
« on: January 05, 2015, 05:27:55 AM »
Hi everyone, this is my first post here. Not new to pep, but I just finished my very first SM helmet a few days ago and wanted to share my build, hope you like it!

First the pep stage, i decided to make a mark III, so first went the cutting, gluing, resin, fiberglass, bondo, sanding, etc...

for the crest i didn't' really wanted to apply, sand, apply sand, etc..so i cheated a little; i just put some bondo, lay over a piece of card stock, and poured some rondo to fill the gaps, in the end it worked, it didn't added a lot of weight, and just a very light layer of bondo and that was that. For the faceplate i didn't apply bondo, just resin, and since i liked the texture, i leave it like that and just cut out the vents.

added some rivets that i cut with a dremel, primer, spot putty, sanding, etc, and a few hours later, the obligated test and pic  ;D

I used pvc pipe for the connectors and painted the lid with aluminum color.

then came the black paint for the rest of the helmet, i used vaseline to make some battle damage, but in the end i cover them, i liked the result though, and I'm going to use it in future builds.

next to add the details: the "ears" that i made from the lid of some cans and made a ring of wire around them, this ring, and the pipe connectors in the helmet were painted gold and then weathered a little. made a stencil for the cross, cut out the eagle logo so it look raised, also painted in gold, glued some foam behind the faceplate and crest vents, and added the hoses

I wanted to add the laurels, but didn't want them just to be painted, so i made ones with wire and card stock, tested, added more leaves,  and when i was happy with the result i painted them, for the lenses i cut a red plastic bottle, and added a thin edge to the cross

to finish, attached the lenses, the laurels, the skull of the cross, weathered the faceplate a little more, and a few coats of clear coat spray

and of course:

Well, it was a very fun build, and I'm going to do more, for now maybe just helmets, since i don't have much space in the house.

Hope you like it  :)

As I said on FB - I'll have it.

Good job sir.

Great work!

I see your first version was helmet with some battle damage right? Why did you abandoned this idea?

That's a kickass helmet!  Nice job!

Well, to be honest, was a mistake, i painted over it by accident,  >:( but i didn't wanted to do it again, so i just covered it all.
