Badger's Kabilite Warrior Build
« on: December 29, 2014, 04:39:12 PM »
Hey everyone! I've been lurking for awhile now and finally have had it being the bride's maid and never the bride. This will hopefully be my way to ask for advice and help anyone else who is just starting out.

As my first love in 40k is the Dark Eldar, I've opted to start my project on a suit of Kabalite Armor.

The picture below, while this is not my build exactly, I'm using it for my proportions.

I figured I'd start on the greaves. After a pattern, some cutting, some shaping and some piss-poor hot-gluing, this is what I have:

Now, while it fits snug like I wanted and covers properly, I did run into an issue. As I slide my leg in or out, its too tight at the bottom for my heel and pops the glue:

The only thing I can think is just to remake it, but I'm not sure how to compensate for my heel even if I did make a new one. Any ideas?

So, not wanting to waste the piece I went around looking at more art. Despite owning the book, I never realised the warrior on the cover of Path of the Renegade's greaves before:

Not only does he have straps on his, he also has two different style greaves. I'm thinking I may go that direction. Here's what I was able to trim down to and build:

Lovely to see the Dark Eldar getting some love. Long overdue.

One question?  The Greaves. You can hide the clips underneath if you make the foam wider they will enclose your leg. Or utilise Velcro & close them up once they're on.

Just an observation. Looking forward to seeing it evolve.

Thanks for the tip! If I don't like the way it looks, I may use that.

My heat gun started smoking yesterday, so it may be some time before I post again. Just waiting on Amazon to ship my replacement.

No worries mate, anytime. The beauty of the Eldar is the fluidity of their armour. With the visible clips it might ruin that somewhat.
have you looked into using Rare Earth magnet's?
Again, this is just my own perception, we all need to compromise when it comes to actually building it :)
