Waaagh!
« on: February 19, 2014, 05:07:32 PM »
I've shelved my Iron Warriors build for the foreseeable future & intend to craft an armoured MegaNob.

I'll be using the same stilts & plan to be armed with Power Klaw & a Shoota.

See you in the field...it'll be brutal.

Pic's to follow.

I locked the thread rather than delete it outright. That way, people can benefit from the experiences you had in that thread and if you elect to return to that project, we can unlock the thread and resume.

Thanks Rahn.

I figured that there are going to be enough Marines out there. Team Green needs to represent!
It's nice not to having to worry about smooth lines & seamless curves. But it comes with it's own issues that's for certain.
Orks being built like apes for one...

Anyhow, this is the fella that I'm attempting.

Looking at the mini, it looks like all the armour pieces are quite simple shapes- theres no compound curves for a start, and lumpy glue seams could easily be extra weld!  Also, theres not much skin on show- only upper arms and head which would make life a bit easier too.  The articulation and rigging could be interesting.....  ;D

It gonna be WIDE!  What sort of height do you see it being when finished?

Good luck with the build!

I agree, it is going to be wiiiide lol, doors are going to be your enemy. But at least, with Orks, there is no such thing as a perfect finish. Though it does look like it will weigh a fair bit, so yeah, the rigging is going to be very interesting.

This is going to be an awesome project to watch though!
Good luck.

Yeah its gonna be super interesting to see how you rig it.

also i wanted to see some other examples of ork Amoured Nobz and found this, you probably have seen it but even so it might be a good pic to help you figure out how you'd fit in there XD

P.S. being a 3rd Company Raven I have a very special disdane for  greenskins ;)

Rahn > That pic is my Wallpaper on my PC :)

Thanks guys. I'm filled with a sense of hopeful optimism. Hydraulics & Con rods/pistons for the Exo skeleton will be working (very basic level mind) where expected all being well.
Have a mock up in the garage with Polypipe, washers  & foam. The 'Killy fingz' 'should' also be doing what they should too.
I was lucky today & got hold of a 6 ft sheet of Plastazote (2" thick) which will make up the main part of the boot.
The angles etc are very appealing Corvus, as they're nice & simple. I will probably need to buy a van though  :)
I also found these beauties in the attic (all my tabletop 'stuff' is boxed for when our sons are old enough to appreciate it).

Bit of a bizarre 'progress pic' but my Lid progress, this will now be spiked on a shoulder pole in true Orky fashion, still need to choose the Chapter.

The recycling Skips at work will supply most of the tubing, hoses & packing foam.

I've had a goal of making a MegaNob as well so will watch this with interest.  One thing to note is that the legs are also an exo-skeleton.  You can see the pants under it in several places.

Yeah, that's one of the issues I'm mulling over right now.

I want to avoid the whole, Rod Hull set up with the fake comedy leg's if I can avoid it.
There are pics of them encased, but that kind of defeats the object & he's then in danger of looking like the Tin man crossed with a Killa Kan.

I planned on a Hulk type suit for the top half, but really need to keep the weight down, so will have a think.

Right

Some progress has been made.
I've decided to bin my stilts as (my wife rightly pointed out) we'd need a bigger car/van, new garage & have to stick to outdoor venues not to mention extend out the garage.
None of which is really an option so as much as i'd like to be 20 ft tall, realistically I'll be around 7.5ft (with the foam stack).

Some early doors progress pics. White foam is a mock up of the frame structure for the plates. I still haven't decided if it's going to be made from abs or foam reinforced with fibreglass (Weight issues being the main factor).
