After seeing someone at Marscon (in Williamsburg, VA) as a Cadian (They were with the 501st as well, but showed up on Friday in their Guard armor), I got referred here. For a couple of years I've wanted to put together a Guard cosplay, but hadn't really poked around.
I was wondering if anyone could suggest some resources on this front? I've got several friends who can (and are willing) to help me out, since I've got nigh-on non-existent crafting abilities myself (one of whom wants to do another costume himself), but I don't have any good resources for how to measure things, what materials to use, etc. I did see a few links on the board, but they seem to be from before things got moved, so I've run into some broken links.
As strange as it may seem, "utility" is preferable to "lightweight" for me...the two main uses would be (1) having something to wear to Cons, around Halloween, and the like and (2) being able to wear to the occasional Nerf fight in my area. While I don't mind things being light, I'm used to hauling around 20-30 lbs on my back/head during those fights, so if something has a bit of weight to it, so be it.
(And yes, making a lasgun-themed airsoft gun will be a project for another day)
