And now back to usual., iow weapons :)
This was supposed to be steampunk, but a friend asked for some 40k iconography, so I will say it is 4-shot preloaded backup laspistol. :) It is small, fits in the palm easily.

Early work on Sister of Battle bolter.
Whole bolter will not be simply scaled up from miniature, it will be of more reasonable size, with it's true caliber from sources (.75" / 19mm). This is an idea of less comically proportioned bolter:

Fleur de lys front sight is a must however as I used on her pistol.

Got broken AK mag (it cost me whole 0.5$) and made rough base for bolt shell:

Started decoration:

Had to ground mag feed lips to fit bolt shell. Since mag will be removable I had to make it look full.

What I will NOT be doing - side-window on a mag - local AK mags are made of thicker and harder steel than most other, so this would be quite hard to do. In that case I would also have to make at least 10 shells so I decided to scrap that idea.

What I will do - fleur de lys on both sides, possibly purity seal on right side. Rivets. Paint the fucker.

I also got one of those grips to use on it and to shorten time needed (good grips are a cast iron bitch to make from scratch):

Rest of bolter will be made from scratch.
I am also considering mounting laser sight (cheep laser pointer) and putting some cheap knockoff airsoft optics on it with some mods to fit better to 40k style.

Small work on mag. Sides (little Aquilla will go near bottom between two reinforcements - I actually put it on other side, but forgot this side...  :)

Rear:

Replaced ugly scull on the front with little cross with a scull from a bitz (a bit blurry, due the hurrying up and not holding phone steady...)

It will be painted black, with some wear and tear and gold details.

Finished mag. Now it has nice =I= on the bottom.

Made a rough body of the gun. Barrel is .75 internal diameter as it should be according to background.

More work... :)

Right side.  I realized after making it that there is  not a lot of point of ejection port that high, but then it was too late for a change :(

And the most fancy sling swivel in the whole universe :)

Thanks. :)
Anyway, grips finally arrived, I got one spare that I will use for future plasma pistol. Considering low cost (~1.5$) I think that most weapons from now on will use those. :)

In same deal I also got this old-school brass rifle maintenance kit. For ~2$ :) Needs cleaning but there is a lot of promise in it.

Work, work, work. :)
Grip mounted, trigger and trigger guard done, basic backup sights (main one will be optic, preferably some cheap red dot), ventilated sighting rib, muzzle break all done. You can also see some basis for a more decorations.

View from a rear - rear sight is a part of lighter with simple V notch, front is fluorescent rod (from Necron sprue).

I like that quite a bit, very nice stuff. the bolter is a nice mix of traditional and function/realworld.

I try to make less oversized weapons, going after description (.75 caliber) and scaling rest from that, as weapons on miniatures are oversized (so not to break when minis are handled, who played any historical wargame in 25-28mm knows what PITA are realistic weapon on miniatures)...
Anyway, work.
Fire selector (moveable) added and decorations started...

Most fancy sling swivel broke off (damn Chinese pot metal) and was replaced by much more ugly but also much sturdier design... I also added no-skid tape to prevent slippages in satin gloves that are part of costume...

Finalized front sight protector design:

Side panel on the right will have battle scene of sister standing up some demons:

More tomorrow...

Few more details...
-=I=- on the back:

Little winged skull on the front sight protector:

Another layer of plasticard on the front to bring it to same level as bordering on the rest of gun:

Little fleur-de-lys on the safety/selector:
