Really great start!  The build log is great too.  So does the epsilon not get rigid?  It is more of a soft coating?

The epsilon does indeed become ridgid, it is both sandable and paintable. It takes about a day to fully harden though. While drying it is quite flexible.

All of my foam is 1/2" thick.

Conversion App

Here is the conversion app I use on my phone.  It was well worth the price! FREE!  I use it a lot so paying nothing was really worth the cost! :LOL

Alright everyone, I need some help. I have little experience in the actual lore and heraldry of space marines. But, I have decided to make my costume an Ultramarine.

My logic is this: I am not personally attached to any one chapter. What is important is that the costume to be widely identifiable and of a prolific chapter. The space marine video game gave even more notoriety to the already widely recognizable Ultramarines. They are, in my mind, the quintessential space marines. Plus, I just like the blue white and gold color scheme.

Anyway. I need help understanding the shoulder markings and company insignia's. I am not going for any special unit like a veteran, just a run of the mill space marine with a heavy bolter.

What company should I be, and what type of iconography is correct?

Back to the build.

The stilts are mounted to the boots, and the toes are mounted. This means, the boots are fully built. PROGRESS. The stilts are still able to be removed, as are the toe sections. Lord knows I love my stuff to be modular. Everything mounts with velcro. Dare I say; I'm pleased with it.

Knowing now the amount of flex my giant foam parts have. I have decided to add an internal structure to some of the pieces. I will be doing this with flexible PVC tubes. The chest and cod are my main concern. Some testing today with a skeleton for the cod was pretty successful. I think it will work well.

More to come. Stay Tuned.

This graphic will come in handy as well:

Company information

The colored borders are the should pad rim color for that company.

I do really love your armor! It's an awesome job. I am honored to see you are going for Ultramarines, they are the best one! [img]http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' />

I was looking at you stilt, and they are awesome, they do look to work well so today I did bought my own pvc and I am actualy doing the same! [img]http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' />

Thank you for giving me so much inspiration!

Update time!

My second shipment of foam is on the way. I am almost through the original 3 sheets. However, I think another 3 sheets should be enough to finish completely. I had anticipated needing more, so this is welcome news.

Also on the way is 25 yards of webbing (think backpack straps) for making the suspenders and stringing the pieces together.

I previously decided to reinforce the bigger pieces with an internal skeleton made of flexible pvc. I have the cod piece all done now and I am extremely happy with the results. It provides ample support for the foam and gives me great attachment points. It is my intent to make a similar structure inside the chest.

Belt construction and cod skeleton:

Giant scale awesomeness:
