Chaos Raptor + Demon Maul
« on: November 02, 2012, 02:18:00 AM »
Hi all,
Currently in the process of learning the ins and outs of the pepakura and such, but just chasing down a few SM rips. Preferably those for the armour suit and jump pack of a Chaos Raptor, and the Demon Maul.

Will post pics as I eventually go, I have managed to obtain an Aquila and Chaos Star for 3d printing (which I'm in the process of saving for at the moment, makerbot rep 2).

Anyway, also had an inquiry - for hollow, closed sections, i.e. an SM elbow etc, how do you close them up and keep shape etc? I am working on an SM elbow at the moment for a friend and just can't work out how to do it.

Any help appreciated!

Cheers

I think I can get my hands on those, send me a PM if it's not listed around here.
The Daemon Maul would probably best be built with foam, it's both big, and repetitive. Assembling all those fins would kill your motivation; cutting out some foam trapezoids and gluing on a dozen detail bits is a LOT easier. The finished maul would probably be a lot lighter, too- once you add resin, fiberglass, and bondo.

I usually end up putting a spacer on when I resin pep parts. cardboard, paper, etc, just don't resin it to the surfaces you want nice and clean, the surface tension of resin will fillet it up to the spacer, and have to be sanded, etc.
If you have the skill, adding a small flange to the 3d model of a part sometimes helps a lot with rigidity. Placing it on a surface, propping objects inside while you resin the outside works nicely, and inversely you can use masking-tape strips across gaps, like the ends of forearms, across the joint of elbows, etc, wrapping around the outer surface while you resin the inside. YMMV.

Of course, for more specific advice, post pics.

Hey mate,
Just chasing up on the Raptor set of armour and the demon maul model, I figure if I've got one model to reference then I can at least make one fin and make it so i can mould it, then copy it.

email is matt.hillocks@live.com

Thanks in advance!
