And, here's a sketch I made while killing time at work. I'm still not an artist, but I think it looks ok. armored collar needs to be a bit wider, and the under piece. I also am thinking the under piece needs to be more square. Click the image for full-size.

I'm not even sure how a bra + corset + chest armor is going to fit together :/

Duct tape? That stuff doesn't belong on my skin! I could always go for slaanesh costume, and forget about all that silly skin coverage... but then nobody could see the completed costume.   [img]http://i6.ifrm.com/14623/129/emo/d90ef53c8f7c0555ea208fbf08e19c08.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='d90ef53c8f7c0555ea208fbf08e19c08.gif' />   [img]http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/laugh.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='laugh.gif' />

IMHO skin coverage is over-rated. But the Duct Tape would be to hold things together, not to use on yourself. Finn is the only one who gets taped.

I will make the costume work, I just have to get the design right, and it will come together. I think it'll work out okay once I get to "it's all coming together" stage  [img]http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' />

Kewl. I am eager to see the flamer. All this will come in the Emperor's own time.

To hell with making the squirt gun work!

ADD THIS!!!!
http://www.citcfx.com/product_fantasy_fx_01.php

I'm eye balling this stuff for some future builds myself

I think if it works upside down it;d be awesome to put in the vents of your jet pack too, add some colored lights and your off to the races!

Remix:

OOohhh, maybe by using a trigger from a compressed air can
like this one

and hooking up a plastic tube to the end of that nozzle, with a Y connector, and run tubing down each rocket. hopefully the fog will be able to travel in the hose.

re-remix: hmmm, this seems unlikely...needs exprimation...

Cool ideas Finn.  Would be cool with any flame based build.  Probably best for her to get some build progress done first though.  All the bells and whistles can be added later.  Though I guess pre-planning helps too...

That fog stuff is interesting. I'd be worried about reloading it though, especially if I used the can as the ammo tank. I can see how I could make it trigger operated, but I'm not as sure what good fog would do coming out of the flamer. The light would make it look kind of orangish in low-light conditions, which would be neat.

I think this stuff would be awesome for a plasma weapon build... They do get hot... coolant leak [img]http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' />

For the backpack, I had already been considering options but didn't want to say anything prematurely in case I decided it was too difficult. The plan is basically to use a portable battery powered fog machine (expensive, but better/more controllable effect) or dry ice (cheaper, limited duration and control) to make fog come out of the thrusters. the idea being that I'm standing on the ground, but the jump pack is still ready to go and smoking some.

The idea is to use vacuum tubing to route the 'fog' to the thruster wings. In the case of dry ice I'd need a small fan to move the fog. The other problem with dry ice is that the backpack will have to stay upright the entire time (or leak water) bending over would get me wet [img]http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/tongue.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tongue.gif' /> Battery powered fog machines are out there... but tend towards the expensive side. [img]http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/unsure.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='unsure.gif' />  I'd also have to take it partially apart to integrate into the backpack.

I found something that might work as a smoke producer for small applications:

Facial Mister

I'm not sure if this is a true ultrasonic mister or not, but the vapor in the picture looks like it comes from an ultrasonic mister. The unit is quite small, using 2 AAA batteries side by side in the base. If the unit could be taken apart, modded with a larger water reservoir and a higher mah battery pack, it could make a neat effect. It might even be capable of a decent duration. One problem is that one unit certainly couldn't supply mist for more than one vent, so multiples would be needed. While not terribly expensive by itself ($20) multiples would add up... and there's no way of knowing if it'll work right without testing.

On the other hand, there's the classic smoke generators for RC stuff and model trains:

RC Smoker

Downside here is that it uses a petroleum based smoke and not water, but it's a pretty well known way of making smoke. This unit seems to put out a decent amount of smoke, and includes tubing and a splitter for the smoke tube. I imagine using two of these. but is the smoke strong enough to be split 3 ways and make it all the way to the base of the thrusters?

Ok, enough random thoughts [img]http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' />

Okay Chaoticjune,

(Remix: the base armor was mostly all made with dutch tape, hot glue a heat gun and some screws.)

( remember I'm dyslexic which makes me awesome, read up on mind strengths and dyslexica
Next I cut it and used a heat gun to reshape it to more "realistic" mesuerments. This takes a bit of time because you want to do it in small steps otherwise you will warp and ruin it. however the end result is a great base for the chest armor. Sadly I don't have pics of this prosses, but I took a lot of photos of the finished piece for you..
Here is the chest piece. I fixed the collar section to the torso because I made the helmet and I needed it secured so that the callor didn't shift and bump into the helmet.

Top shot, you can see the way I cut the neck out. I wanted to maximize the area covered by the chest piece becuase it allowed me to have a bit of freedom with the collar shape ( hate the gap the chest protector leaves)

Shot of the back of it. I made it like a bra strap, but with 1 important difference..

More on that in the next post.

I made the straps in 2 pieces so they feed throught. I did this because the chest piece is soilding with very little flex and makes getting the chest piece off easier. Of course this was designed to be put on with the help of someone else. I used ellastic for both pieces. You need the give ,trust me

Here you can see the pieces of craft foam (6mm stuff) I used to pad the shoulders for comfort and all so to add a brace and attachment point for the shoulder armor. This shot is looking "up" through the armor. You can also see the clips used to attach the back pack. ( white ones)

Better shot of the padding/base for the shoulders. You can see the flat clip I used to secure the ahoulders. ( forgive the spray paint on the hands)

A shot of the shoulder on the dressform(thanks wookie!) so you can see the way it lays.

The was it fits over the neck, and the ugly, ugly mess of the inside of the collar. After storing the armor imporperly and having it bend and break I had to do some "fixing"...

When she wears it, she uses a ribbed neck seal piece that the storm troopers wear. like this one, it gives a nice finished look to the armor.

The underside of the shoulder armor which is made from 6mm sintra. I used elastic for this and used glue and a small screw from a plastic gun ( really sharp point) to fix it in place.

The shoulder slids up under the tubing which helps secure it in place and then it is clipped in.

You can see how it sits agains the collar here.

SHot of the underside with the shoulder inplace and the clip attached. Being able to take it appart makes it much easier to store and transport!

Shot of the other side under the tubing,

Side shot of the shoulder, you can see it's off set to so it doesn't hit the backpack and also follows the natural shape of the human form.

Back of the shoulder showing how the backpack straps/clips are placed. There are two sets because I had two different back packs made for this. A regular one that is used with another SoB armor build I did and the new canoness one. The canoness one uses both clips to help stablize it because of the shape.

You can see how the 6mm craft foam padding comes down to absorb a lot of the weight/stress of the backpack. Ones the corset is on, the back pack is  very balanced ( or so I am told)

The back with "bra" straps linked.
