sizing of a bolter
« on: April 24, 2012, 01:46:00 PM »
Hey guys!
Slowly but steady i am planing to make a bolter, but i am struggling with getting the right size of it.

Gaukr Stronghawk made this lovely picture:

But i am finding this to be a bit small.

How big are your bolters?

Greetings!

For the one I have been working on the overall length is coming in at 27 in. This is based on the scale of the bolt pistol I did, which came in at 15 in. In both cases I used a 3 in barrel diameter to get the length.

First question, are you building it human sized or marine sized?

Typically on a gun build I decide how big of a hand I am building it for and scale the grip to that.  Once I have the grip the right size I scale everything else to match.

whell it realy depends on how tall you are and how bulky your armour is. also if your bolter is realy big it will be a problem to grip it properly

Well i'm 190cm, but slim build, so the armor wont be super bulky.
I'm considering making it 10 cm smaller in the length.

Also sorry for the hugemongus picture xD

now with resized bolter

As a few of the other guys have mentioned, 3 inches is a good barrel size.  If you scale everything to that you get a nicely proportioned bolter.

Wow, talk about ultra detailed. I am very appreciative for that man. It should help very much for the overly retentive on measurement and proportion types like myself.

I'm glad someone finds this useful xD To be honest i too am a number person, that's why i put a couple of hours in making this [img]http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' />

Nice build, Clothar.

I think, with my re scaled drawing i'm gonna hit an outer diameter of the barrel at 3"

Further on to next step! Find materials xD
