I heard from someone that this was a great warhammer costuming communty and thought I would show you guys what my friends and me are working on... I hope you guys enjoy this build...  (http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /> -----A few months ago, my friend Deshk and me wanted to do something other then star wars for a change. We decided to make costumes from Warhammer mine being a High Elf Shadow Warrior, and his a Witch Hunter. We will hopefully be able to go to Comic Con in our costumes.[img]http://img829.imageshack.us/img829/7506/21575764.jpg)

So I completed my sword working all day. I cut down the end and turned it into a smaller looking stone. Then I used plumers putty to make a "fasit" for the stone. Then I engraved the runes into the gold fasit and painted to hilt.

That sword is amazing, especially the blade.  How did you do it?

And can I assume you're basing your costumes on the MMORPG?  If you haven't you should take a look around the model ranges for a more diverse range of inspiration.  The Mordheim Witch Hunters in particular have a very dark feel, almost like a lynch mob or a horde of angry villages with torches and pitchforks.

its good to see you too brisk! [img]http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' />

The sword itself is a sword i bought and modded...
http://www.amazon.com/Fantasy-Master-Hells...5916443&sr=1-30 (http://www.amazon.com/Fantasy-Master-Hells-Bane-Sword/dp/B001E4LBWM/ref=sr_1_30?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1295916443&sr=1-30)

I am more basing my shadow warrior off of the warhammer game mark of chaos... I would rather base it off of artwork and renders that a lot more people recognize it. So our base is off of the games.

Head taking? That's a very Dark Elf thing to do. And Shadow Warriors, being from the same place as the Dark Elves were originally from abhor and avoid anything and everything that the Dark Elves might do.
Title: Warhammer Shadow Warrior Cosplay

that is Alith Anar the Shadow King, he and his fellow shadows killed, tortured, and mutilated the drucii in any way possible. I wouldn't be wearing it, but it would be a fresh kill hanging from my belt. If they wouldn't do anything that the dark elves do, then they wouldn't torture and do horrible things to any dark elves that they catch.
Btw abhor is from what? Is it a place or a high elf house name?

He meant the verb abhor:

Regard with disgust and hatred

There should be a coma after "from"

So last night we worked on my vambraces and his shoulder armor. Aluminum is a pain to work with and trying to make it mold how you want doesn't work well. Anyway the  vambraces will need some fixing up with plumbers putty some foam and detail work, but they should work. I plan on covering the gap in the vambraces with foam and painting it to look like its apart of the metal, then when I need to get my hand out I can move the foam. Then the  pauldron armor I'm going to smooth over with plumbers putty cause it has a few cracks and such.

The bracers look nice, little bit 'o battle damage! [img]http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' />

the shoulders do need some more work, but are shaping up nicely.

Are you going for a "been out huntin' dark elves for a few weeks" look or j"ust left to go huntin' " look?

If it's the been hunting, then some battle damage would be appropriate.

Ask toydivision on here about the gems, her eldar costume has a ton and they look fantastic!!

Working with a friend on his LOTR costume, a Range of Ithillien, and that hood is very close look wise to theirs... any chance you have a pattern for it, or any wip shots or a sort type tutorial?

That chest template looks good!!

Yeah I found some sweet info on her thread thanks btw!

Erus- We just made a basic pattern, but the hood part we doubled up, it keeps its shape and as you can see looks pretty good. I would have to ask my friend though what pattern she used.

Wow. I'm impressed. I've got a personal vested interest in seeing you succeed with this particular costume - I did a decent amount of work on WAR. Send me a PM with your address (please), I've got a present for you. It's not much, and it's probably not something you can use with the costume, but it's a small token of my respect and admiration.

Unfortunately, you aren't going to find cheap and good quality in metal working tools.  My rule of thumb, go to Harbor Freight and buy their cheap tools.  What you'll find is about 10% of them you keep wearing out.  After the third one wears out, pay for a good one of those.

I was a goldsmith for a number of years before becoming a watchmaker, in fact I have my BFA in metalsmithing and jewelery design.

Looking at the images I would say make some gems like the ones Toy made for her Farseer, and keep the rest of the decoration to fluting and maybe do a bit of etching.

My advice, and this is not a plug for "my" video game, is to look at the Warhammer: Age of Reckoning concept art and some of the high-rez screenshots for Shadow Warriors in their various pieces of high-end loot. I'd start with the concept art - it's always a much better representation than the in-game art.

I also think it's a bit left-field, for lack of a better term, to base any Shadow Warrior designs on anything but Shadow Warriors. Yes, they are High Elves, but the Shadow Warrior is usually a much darker breed of character. They have simple but ornate designs, as opposed to the gilded stuff you usually see on Swordmasters, White Lions, and even Archmages. That's my opinion. I see them as more of a commando-y kind of character, versus a more ostentatious elf. Does that make sense? Because I haven't had near enough coffee.

Understood Zac, and Kaiwan I'll keep that in mind for the design, though I probably will only have very small gems and one large one in the middle and Ill keep the prissiness down lol. Here's some pics of my chest just with the bottom and the sides bent by pliers. Then I tryed to do a emboss on a scrap piece, idk if its crap or what I wanted to get your guys opinion. Should I emboss or put puddy on it?

I'd say go with the muddy, you will have more control over the design.

Not to be a party pooper, but I would say go simpler on the design. The high elf craftsmen are almost complete perfectionists, that have spent hundreds, if not thousands of years honing their skills. The only way your craftsmanship is going to look like that is if you make it look like they decided to keep the designs simple. And I'm not dissing your abilities here, that's the brief John Howe gave to the designers who were making the high elf stuff in LOTR.

I would do vertical flutes, with gems. Difficult to describe really. Just do a couple of sketches with the motto "less is more" written at the top of the piece of paper. Maybe search for german 15th century armours? In about 1470 they have a really clean beautiful shape, that is simple but not overly difficult. Also, have a look into etching. You may find it's easier than you think.

So tonight I went with a simple yet elvish design for the breast plate. I plan on in graving the lines and the flourishes I will use puddy on them to raise them out.

Well life's been busy lately and I'm happy to not be rushed anymore on the costume cause it turns out Dragon Con will be out of the question this year... But will hit a con next year. So anyway finished my shoulder armor and just got my casts along with resin. Will have progress with the jewels when they come out.

My very first costume was a ranger-type and they've always been my 'first love', so I'm following this with great interest!

I'll reiterate that the cowl/mask looks great! Does it 'stick' to your face well? That's the problem I've been facing; mine keeps falling down...

Slip a length of millinery wire into the hem, shape at will, and never worry about cowl floppage again   [img]http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' />

Impressive! The only thing that disturbs me is the lilac/purple colour fabric, but luckily it isn't visible under the armour.

Also: sewing machines are the best gift . I'm discreetly hinting at an embroidery machine whenever someone asks me about what I would be happy to get for birthday/Christmas/etc.  [img]http://i6.ifrm.com/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' />
