Title: Stilt height
Post by: Brother Androx on February 11, 2016, 08:41:00 AM
Hey all,

I've spend the better part of the morning searching through the posts about stilt height and I still need help.  I'm using the 935 scale and I'm about 5'9".  When I did the dry fit, I only needed 4" to make things look right.  So why do so many people use 12"?
Have I missed something?

When I did my Salamander, I originally made my stilts to make me 7 foot. Yet after checking them against the patterns that I cut out on the foam, the proportions were way off. So cut and rechecked over and over until it looked right. I now stand 6'3 in my costume. I think it's up to you. up your size or keep it the way it is

my understanding of what I have read is that the 935 build is about 6'6" avg.  1035 (I think) is the 7 footer.

I dunno, if you look at the gold standard, Sean Torelli did a build with only a few inches of stilt (~8"?)and it turned out well (like oh hell yeah, OMGBBQ) and it was a stock print. He did a bunch of scratch items but the chest piece was sized of a 935, I believe. I personally believe that these suits need to be on stilts. I am adding over a foot but others don't. It all depends on your tastes.

In the lore, the average height of a Space Marine is 8-10ft. I’m going for 9ft tall. It’s probably best to make stilts out of light wood or steel.

I'm 6'1.  I used 6" wooden platforms.  I have tried on 18" stilts and I couldn't wear them.

I'm looking to replace them with about 10" foam blocks (yoga blocks) soon.
