Title: [COMPLETED] The golden armor of the Emperor
Post by: anubis on November 04, 2014, 04:56:17 PM
"Before the heresy of Horus, the Emperor was called Anubis?"

Sorry for the faults of language, my English is far from being perfect.

Hello everybody. I followed advice of Alix Alberti (that I greet and thanks) who has  suggered me to come to present my current cosplay on this forum.

Faithful to my habit, I made the cosplay only one who is unclassifiable. But because it is an energetic armor, I think that its place is here:

The real size God Emperor armor

Current progress

(complete size of the soil in the collar: about 1m65 in seated position)

As it is not real official illustrations of this armor, I allowed myself some liberties

Approximately 550 hours of work since April. It is realized foam EVA to whom I applied a coat of gelcoat epsilon which I sanded. I caught up the defects by one successions of stages of passage in the putty and sanding. What explains its white color.
The decorations (in red and blue) are made with the foam of sporting mat, solidified and smoothed in the same way
The right shoulder strap, in the shape of skull, is made by papercraft technique, and solidified by fiberglass.

Some detail of legs

The plastron, the pelvis (I'm not sure of the english word for this piece) and the belt buckle in progress

the left shoulder. I found that it was begin to have too many eagles shape decorations  on my armor there, I wanted to put another motive between wings. I finally decided for a feminine bust

I molded the character on a little statue which I had at home. I beheaded it to reorientate the head, I redid the neck, the breast and I sculptured hair

And the last photo : the advance of the arms. I completely revised them at the level of biceps to integrate them into shoulder straps, and I spent the usual coat of epsilon more a first coat of putty of finish

Of course, the left arm will be modified for receive a lighting claws aspect.

Oh, except this, I need your help:
a Russian friend like to know if there is an alternative resin to the epsilon. She can't get this mark

thanks everybody for your comments.

This is the definitive natural position of arm

(http://i74.servimg.com/u/f74/18/31/47/16/2014-114.jpg) (http://www.servimg.com/view/18314716/838)

Shoulder pads are carried higher than for a model astartes. First to reinforce the impression of colossal size and of power of the armour, then to avoid habitual worries of space marines real size armours: the too short arms impression.

@ Finnlock : the shoulder pad was made according to the file of Henrik Pilerud. It is composed of 2 layers of resin with a structure put wire netting between two. The decorations are in fine coat on a plate of reconstructed wood (at the end and leger) And I had many difficulty making a look younger the face of the character

http://www.servimg.com/view/18314716/640
http://www.servimg.com/view/18314716/786
http://www.servimg.com/view/18314716/788

@ Rraijjar : Thanks, but I confirm; it is not a miniature

http://www.servimg.com/view/18314716/728

Decorations which there is over are only the most imposing, those that it is judicious to make in ship's apprentice. Of course there will be the smallest.
The next stage will be to sand her and to slick it entirely. Look battle dammage is suitable for the marine spaces but for the armour of the Emperor. Therefore no defect on the surface is needed.
Then I will make the wrong customs gemstones, then the installation of leds and games of light.

Might need a box to stand on though...

thank you everybody

after the whole long weekend of 4 days to be cut up, to stick and to sand (especially to sand) I could begin arms.

here the left wrist, which will receive the energy clawsl

(http://i59.servimg.com/u/f59/18/31/47/16/2014-110.jpg) (http://www.servimg.com/view/18314716/851)

(the quoting with the cup-shaped cut, it is the crease of the elbow, and the visible holes are the sites of articulation)

and I finally began the creation of the last room of this armour: the eagle who overhangs the head.
I did not want an imperial eagle of a napoleonic style, as one there vout often in the illustrations of this armour. On one hand because I find this seedy, then because I have it one can credit of motives with scales has a great time.

Having made some trials and sketch, I decided on a model of a futuristic design, which I cut up and sculpted in the foam.
It is still missing that the ventral part, which is not begun. (as she is opened, if I glue her together now I will have no more access to some zones

(http://i59.servimg.com/u/f59/18/31/47/16/2014-115.jpg) (http://www.servimg.com/view/18314716/856)

and here with the missing element, to give me an idea of the final return

(http://i59.servimg.com/u/f59/18/31/47/16/2014-116.jpg) (http://www.servimg.com/view/18314716/857)

here is the evolution of the eagle.

I put 2 pieces together provisionally to be able to be properly sulking.
the brown scotch tape on the photo is in reality a piece of teflon. As they again discovered nothing that is capable of remaining glued together on the Teflon, this material is very practical for this working type, because the separation of 2 halves is gently made.

(http://i59.servimg.com/u/f59/18/31/47/16/2014-117.jpg) (http://www.servimg.com/view/18314716/862)

(http://i59.servimg.com/u/f59/18/31/47/16/2014-118.jpg) (http://www.servimg.com/view/18314716/863)

(http://i59.servimg.com/u/f59/18/31/47/16/2014-121.jpg) (http://www.servimg.com/view/18314716/866)

For legs, I fabricated a shell in iron thread. I fixed her definitely with a drop of resin to the site of fixings, then I sculpted legs by top with fimo paste (a play dough which hardens when it is baked)

(http://i59.servimg.com/u/f59/18/31/47/16/2014-122.jpg) (http://www.servimg.com/view/18314716/867)

(http://i59.servimg.com/u/f59/18/31/47/16/2014-123.jpg) (http://www.servimg.com/view/18314716/868)

here are 2 provisionally put together elements.

I will glue them together definitely enseemble later. It will be much easier to paint inside before putting 2 pieces together.
But before this, there remains another big job of sanding, especially on thighs and where I repaired a wing which had begun tearing.

(http://i59.servimg.com/u/f59/18/31/47/16/2014-125.jpg) (http://www.servimg.com/view/18314716/870)

next step: to end all this, am possible begin its support: the room which will make junction between the eagle and the backpack
Title: Re: The golden armor of the Emperor
Post by: anubis on November 30, 2014, 10:43:04 AM
I fabricated a support for the eagle.
The back pack, with vents, is fixed to the breast-plate, the element which overhangs it and motive.

(the whole still has classes of finishing, of or the aspect rough draught and not handrail)

Here the elements which have already received an undercoat.
I began by painting everything in green, because the green is the colour which emphasises the best the golden color.

here, the first layer of gold chromium

I glued the whole together and fact of trials of bet puts there there. Several disappointment:
besides horizontality to be corrected - and there I confess not to know how to make - I quickly realised that gold chromed as that one is very fragile. I paid carefull by manipulating the element, however it already carries traces of scratches. Of course, having made several trials, I have no single paint spray who's compatible with one of varnishes I have at home. (and the varnish would have made lose the chromium-plated aspect)
I hope to find a less fragile painting in next days
And of course, to glue the room together in good position is a true Calvary because she must support her own weight. The néoprène glue had no effectiveness that I had hoped. I therefore cast some resin between legs and plinth. There ca should hold.

there remains the head of the eagle to work, and to iron an uniform layer of chromium-plated painting (as well as make fixings)
the photo distorts result, in reality the eagle is more imposing

Looks good dude. I have a question tho. To be honest, I should've asked this earlier...

Why did you choose to make the right shoulder a skull? I understand that this is your interpretation of The Emperors armour, but I think that the right shoulder needs to be more ornate (unless you already have plans for this?).

In the end tho, it's your armour, I am only offering ideas. Carry on.

thanks

I wanted made a skull for this shoulder strap only because I love the armor of Maugan-Ra; and I find the skull shoulders give it a terrible look.

I wanted reproduce this impression on mine, obviously with an ornament in a style more "chaplain" . But of course yes it will not stay as this, I planned to more ornate it.

first walk of the emperor of Mankinds
First wearing of the complete armour, and I make you be of benefit of photos.

As I expected it, there are regulatings to be made on legs. But when thighs will be closer of the pelvis, the proportions will be perfect

To be honest I like everything but the right shoulder..... To me it stands out so strongly as not fitting with the armor you build. Do you have plans to make it fit better or is it simple a place holder? All images of the emp of mankind I have seen don't have a skull shoulder pad so I'm wondering why you chose too.

Keep up the great work!

It is amusing, this shoulder, it leaves nobody uninterested. There is those who like and other whom detest.
I chose to make a skull shoulder because I wanted one (and I did not want to make the symmetrical shoulders)
yes I have plans to improve it, it will not stay as this.

the advance on the right gauntlet. He is not finished, the plates of armour plating are still missing.

Joints were made in silicone, the metallic parts are in silver-plated cloth and the scales of fingers are made by steel

For fingers I used a technique invented by a friend for his cosplay of iron man. It consists in displaying a thick layer of the silicone around an electrical scabbard and to turn it out of the tin. once hitched up inside in this aspect of joint of armour.
I used some black silicone, but it is possible to get any colour by blending painting with bodywork in some transparante silicone (result is bluffing)

Painting was not good quality and I badly displayed the silicone. Therefore the result in a return " battle dammage " that I absolutely wanted to avoid. But I will be able to correct this later.

1st test of painting on resinated elements : the back banner and the curl of belt.
Every 2 were painted with the same paints and by using the same techniques (to link these elements together)

the support of the banner received a layer of painting silver, to cut with colour and of the eagle.

Here is the ongoing left hand.

Visible brown levy on photos it is of the Teflon. I go to résine this part of labels in translucent red to make a rear-lighting. And as nothing really adheres on the Teflon, turning out will be made easier.

I plan to display some resin for nails, to get a translucent return; but if somebody has another idea I am taker. The resin crystal I thought of it, but it is a resin of inclusion, it does not spread out in the brush.

The background grid is in centimeters

on the other hand I noticed big one worries on labels, I am going have to see again this. (they are too broad in comparison with fingers and I cannot all put them down correctly, otherwise they do not make natural.)

I have never seen it on any illustration, but a power armor is incomplete as long as it hasn't helmet, thus I began to make one.
I intend to make a crest, but I do not still know what. I find that there are already enough motives for eagles on this armor like that

I adjusted the size of the helmet to the scale of the armor. On a miniature it is not shocking, but not fitted to a size astartes, it gives the impression of being one can young. (This depiction is Strengthened by the camera)

I hope that the crest will restore the balance

I wanted to make a representing crest one of the beatifullest victory of the Emperor: the one whom he in winning counters the dragon C' Tan.

The dragon is made there papercraft and worbla (I found an utility in the texture of the worbla: it is perfect to imitate the leather of the membranne of wings)
the figurine of the Emperor arrives by post, it is friend which made conversion for me

Every time I see this armour I can't help but be awestruck at the sheer amount of detail and work that has gone into it's construction. Fantastic work.

What did you use on the thighs to make the filigree/curls?  Hot glue?

after a month of sanding, all defects of the right leg are corrected (finally almost all) and it is almost ready to be painted.

I start therefore the other leg, which received the following layer of putty, and I am going again to recover in the sanding

Anubis, did you try with transparent fibre, you apply that with brush and is like barnish but really is fibre....

Perhaps that could protect the gold...

After putting this realization side a few weeks, I'm back with the continuation of the realization.

I make a coat of scale to dress the pelvis, and if possible the joints of the elbows and behind the knees.

So cutting more than 340 scales into an air-curing modeling clay, painting, and assembling with rings that I made into wire.

If you die, don't grind it up and give it to the knight households, that would be a waste. I f you're going to be on the golden throne, wear your golden armor!
Title: Re: [COMPLETED] The golden armor of the Emperor

I don't intend to die
I had thought to make a golden throne to present it at home, but I gave up the idea because the whole would take far too much room

You're looking at the problem wrong. You need a bigger house FOR the throne!

to defeat him, it would have been enough to trap him in a corridor in which he could not turn

Thats very true. It  makes you question the mobility and practicality of the armor space marines wear.

It is a little bulky and the female side of the family call space marines "teeny heads". They're not tiny, its just a comparison of the armor. try fighting da orkz without armor. Thats called the Steel legion of Armageddon
